Piet Davelaar:

"In 1971, I was 16 years old, I started this with a friend on an old typewriter. We wrote articles ourselves and cut and pasted from all kinds of magazines, my father worked at a school and he copied everything on a stencil machine. It was sold by one bookstore in Amsterdam, and we had about 50 subscribers, mostly in The Netherlands, but also in Belgium, Switzerland, UK and even Brasil."

United Mutations:

In 1971 (!!) Piet Davelaar started "Inventions", a Frank Zappa & Mothers fanzine published by the Frank Zappa Society. To my knowledge, "Inventions" was the first Zappa fanzine. The first issues were published about 35 years ago. As you can see, I tried to add a table of contents which should give you an idea of what it was all about: newsflashes, new releases, and a lot of info on the artists that belonged to the Zappa Family. A true piece of history... Thanks to Piet Davelaar.
